  • U.S. subsidiaries in Tennessee play a vital role in supporting jobs. They now employ 140,300 Tennesseans -- an increase of 4.5% over five years.
  • Tennessee has proven to be an attractive location for international employers, ranking 15th in the country in the number of employees supported by U.S. subsidiaries
  • In fact, the relative portion of jobs in the state supplied by U.S. subsidiaries remains significant. They provide the livelihood for nearly 6% of Tennessee’s private-sector workforce.

In August of 2008, Volkswagen of American, Inc. a U.S. subsidiary of Volkswagen AG based in Germany, announced that it has selected Chattanooga to build a new production facility. The $1 billion facility is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs immediately and will create another 9,477 related jobs within the state. Production at the plant will begin as soon as 2011 and is slated to produce more than 150,000 vehicles.
