U.S. subsidiaries support 62,400 manufacturing jobs in South Carolina. Manufacturing companies tend to have a strong "multiplier" effect on the economy-stimulating a substantial amount of activity and jobs in other sectors through their demand for inputs from other suppliers.

ONE COMPANY'S STORY

Michelin North America, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of France's Groupe Michelin, began producing tires in the United States with the opening of its first radial tire plant in South Carolina in 1975. In the Palmetto State today, Michelin has more than 8,000 employees at its North American headquarters in Greenville, seven plants, state-of-the-art test track and North American research and development center. Michelin has invested more than $2 billion in South Carolina and is the state's largest exporter through the Port of Charleston. Widely regarded as the world leader in tire technology and innovation, Michelin designs and produces tires for every segment of the market, from passenger tires to truck tires to earthmover tires.
