U.S. subsidiaries in New Jersey have consistently supported a significant number of jobs in the state. They now employ 228,600 New Jersey workers-an increase of over 19% over five years.

In comparison to other states, New Jersey has proven to be an attractive location for international employers, ranking 7th in the United States in the number of employees supported by U.S. subsidiaries.

In fact, the relative portion of jobs in the state supplied by U.S. subsidiaries has remained strong over time. They provide the livelihood for nearly 6.7% of New Jersey's private-sector workforce. New Jersey ranks 5th in the percentage of total private-sector employment supported by U.S. subsidiaries.

MANUFACTURING JOB FACTS

U.S. subsidiaries support 64,900 manufacturing jobs in New Jersey. Manufacturing companies tend to have a strong "multiplier" effect on the economy-stimulating a substantial amount of activity and jobs in other sectors through their demand for inputs from other suppliers.

Overall, approximately 28.4% of jobs at U.S. subsidiaries in New Jersey are in manufacturing industries.


ONE COMPANY'S STORY

L'Oréal USA, a subsidiary of the France-based global cosmetics company, employs more than 2,900 people in manufacturing, distribution, sales, administration and research throughout the state. L'Oréal has been doing business in New Jersey since 1953 when it opened its first plant with twenty employees in Clark. Also in Clark, is a L'Oréal R&D facility, which devekops many of the company's popular American brands, including Maybelline, Matrix, Redken and Ralph Lauren Fragrances. L'Oréal has manufacturing facilities in Clark, Franklin, Piscataway and West Caldwell, which, combined, produce approximately 406MM units each year. South Brunswick houses the firm's largest distribution plant and additional distribution facilities are located in Cranbury and Dayton.
