ONE COMPANY'S STORY

McCain Foods USA, the U.S. subsidiary of a Canadian-owned company, is bringing 100 new jobs to Grand Island, in addition to the already existing 530 employees at their appetizer production facility. McCain is a major U.S. manufacturer of frozen french fries, pizzas and appetizers. The company bought the production facilities and food-service business from another food producer and is spending $10 million to upgrade the production lines and build an addition to the engine room.

*Beginning August 2004, the Commerce Department changed the focus of its reported data on jobs supported by foreign direct investment (FDI). From this point on, all FDI statistics will refer only to companies having a majority of foreign ownership. Prior to this change, the Commerce Department followed international standards of including companies that had 10% or more foreign ownership.
