jobs in Montana, an increase of 171% over five years.
Manufacturing companies tend to have a strong "multiplier"
effect on the economy-stimulating a substantial amount
of activity and jobs in other sectors through their demand
for inputs from other suppliers.
Overall, approximately 32.8% of jobs at U.S. subsidiaries in Montana are in manufacturing industries.

ONE COMPANY'S STORY
Kennecott Energy, a U.S. subsidiary of
UK-based Rio Tinto, employs more than 120 people at a coal-mining
operation near Decker. The Spring Creek plant produces about
8.9 million tons of coal per year. Most of the coal is used
for power production.
