ONE COMPANY'S STORY

New Flyer of America, a subsidiary of Dutch-owned New Flyer Industries Limited, recently opened a state of the art manufacturing facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota following a production project beginning in 1999. New Flyer, one of the largest manufacturers of urban transit buses in North America, presently employs over 300 people at the St. Cloud site. This number is projected to rise to 450 within the next two years, and may ultimately result in the employment of 800 local residents upon full capacity and in response to demand.

*Beginning August 2004, the Commerce Department changed the focus of its reported data on jobs supported by foreign direct investment (FDI). From this point on, all FDI statistics will refer only to companies having a majority of foreign ownership. Prior to this change, the Commerce Department followed international standards of including companies that had 10% or more foreign ownership.
