tend to have a strong "multiplier" effect on the economy—stimulating
a substantial amount of activity and jobs in other
sectors through their demand for inputs from other

BP Solar USA,
a U.S. subsidiary of a British company, recently announced
that it will invest $97 million to expand its Frederick
facilities. The investment includes the construction
of a 140,000 square foot building to increase its manufacturing
and production capacity. Already the largest fully integrated
solar plant in North America, the plan is to nearly
double the current casting and sizing capacity. The
project, due to be completed by 2009, is expected to
create 70 new jobs at the facility.
