  • U.S. subsidiaries of global companies play a vital role in North Carolina’s economy, insourcing 188,200 jobs; writing paychecks to nearly 6 percent of North Carolina’s private-sector workforce.

Manufacturing Jobs
  • North Carolina ranks 5th in the nation in the number of manufacturing industry jobs at U.S. subsidiaries.
  • More than 47 percent of jobs at U.S. subsidiaries in North Carolina are in the manufacturing industry—accounting for 88,800 jobs.
Greenfield Jobs
  • U.S. subsidiaries announced 64 Greenfield projects* in North Carolina in 2010, creating an estimated 6,949 new jobs.

Electrolux North America

Charlotte 
Electrolux North America, is the U.S. operations of Sweden-based AB Electrolux, one of the world's leading international appliance companies. In late 2010 Electrolux announced it would expand its recently opened North American headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, by adding an additional 300 jobs. The 216,000 square foot facility was renovated by Electrolux in 2010 at a cost of approximately $13 million. The new facility will create more than 700 American jobs over the next five years.
 

Freightliner Trucks

Gastonia 
Freightliner Trucks, is part of the U.S. operations of the Germany-based Daimler AG, one of the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles. In February, the company announced plans to add more than 600 jobs to its Mt. Holly and Gastonia, North Carolina manufacturing plants to accommodate rising customer demand and expanding production schedules. Company officials also confirmed that hiring will occur at all the company’s truck and parts manufacturing facilities during the first half of 2011 totaling approximately 1,300 new positions. Daimler Trucks North America is the leading medium and heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America.
