  • U.S. subsidiaries of global companies play a vital role in Massachusetts’ economy, insourcing 185,000 jobs; writing paychecks to more than 6 percent of Massachusetts’ private-sector workforce.
  • Massachusetts ranks 10th in the nation in the number of jobs at U.S. subsidiaries.
Manufacturing Jobs
  • More than 25 percent of jobs at U.S. subsidiaries are in the manufacturing industry—accounting for 47,300 jobs.
  • Massachusetts ranks 15th in the nation in the number of manufacturing industry jobs at U.S. subsidiaries.
Greenfield Jobs
  • U.S. subsidiaries announced 38 Greenfield projects* in Massachusetts last year, creating an estimated 2,360 new jobs.
  • U.S. subsidiaries invested an estimated $788 million in Massachusetts Greenfield projects last year.

Novartis US

Cambridge 
Novartis US is the U.S. operations of Switzerland-based Novartis AG, a global leader in the research, development and manufacturing of innovative prescription drugs. In October 2010, the company announced it would invest $600 million to expand its worldwide research and development campus located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The plan, which will add 400,000 square feet of extra lab space and create 300 new research jobs is scheduled to begin this year.
 

Ahold USA

Quincy 
Ahold USA, is the U.S. operations of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold, an international group of quality supermarkets. Headquartered in Massachusetts, over the past five years Ahold USA has expanded the operations of both their Stop & Shop and Giant chain of supermarkets in Quincy and Braintree. Stop & Shop operates over 128 stores and 83 pharmacies state-wide and is one of the largest private employers in the state with a workforce totaling over 23,000. Ahold’s growth in Massachusetts is part of their $1.1 billion capital investment commitment in the Commonwealth.
