- In fact, the relative portion of
jobs in the state supplied by U.S. subsidiaries remains
significant. They provide the livelihood for 4%
of California's private-sector workforce.

- U.S. subsidiaries support 133,700
manufacturing jobs in California. Manufacturing companies
tend to have a strong "multiplier" effect on the economy—stimulating
a substantial amount of activity and jobs in other
sectors through their demand for inputs from other
suppliers.
- Almost 9% of manufacturing jobs in California
are supported by U.S. subsidiaries.
- U.S. subsidiaries’ employment in
California is heavily concentrated in manufacturing.
Nearly 25% of these jobs are in manufacturing industries.

- U.S. subsidiaries consistently support millions
of American jobs. They now employ 5.3 million Americans-or
4.5% of private sector employment.

per U.S. worker of $68,317; this is 32% higher than
compensation at all U.S. companies.

Virgin America,
a U.S. subsidiary of the British company Virgin Group,
has begun offering service on its low cost airline Virgin,
based in Burlingame, California and will have two daily
nonstop flights between San Francisco International
Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport. Virgin
also offers five daily nonstop flights between San Francisco
International Airport and Los Angeles International
Airport. The new service will add thousands of jobs
to the region's airline industry. Virgin America says
it eventually will create 3,000 to 5,000 jobs for mechanics,
flight attendants, pilots, reservationists and others,
many of them in the Bay Area.
